Maison Sublime

In August 1976, work was being carried out to restore the paving in the courtyard of Rouen’s Palais de Justice. During the digging, a dull thud was heard, and a stone wall was revealed before the workmen’s eyes. The way the stones were carved could only mean one thing. They were part of a 12th century Romanesque building. Excavations began and the inscriptions engraved on the walls confirmed the history of the site. Dating back to the 12th century, this is the oldest Jewish building in France.
